About a week ago, I found 20 carpenter ants, during the day, in my infant daughter's room. We know we have a moisture problem in her skylight, which we are getting replaced and are re - roofing the house,in 2 1/2 weeks. The following day I found a trail of ants leading from the corner of our roof, down the house, and across the yard and into my neighbor's yard( about 20 feet)to a dead pine tree. Some of the ants were carrying larvae. The tree seems to be infested with carpenter ants. We sprayed everything nearby with ant spray, the tree, the trail, up the house, and even along the inside of my daughter's crawlspace ( which sits below the skylight). Since then, I have noticed about 3 to 5 ants a day still in her room. I also found a small trail of ants again leading from the roof to this tree. I must also mention I have found a couple ants elsewhere in the house, just one or two each per room. We have not noticed any activity at night and have not found any sawdust piles. Do we have a colony in our house somewhere, or were they just looking for food? How can we solve and fix the problem, permanently?
