yes, i think they are kinda small, maybe 1/2" each? i don't know about the holes. i don't know where they disappear to but that would make sense. at night they are totally gone. by day they are moving so quickly i can barely see their color...very fast, i only can make out black.

the wasps on the other hand go into a a small gap in the siding thats loose. they emerge at top speed and like go the rose bush usually.

then there's a 3rd type. some very big yellow and black bees that like the rhododendron. i don't think these are much of a problem at least for now...

i'm glad you make it up this way. my schedule is open... just let me know when is best for you. i'll try to keep the ants at bay until then....
