Last week, Hubby cut dead limb off of queen palm; moved it over by trash cans; cut it up next morning for pick up that day (Wed.)...Thursday, saw some CAs in my home-office (trash cans are by the fence, directly across from window); later, saw more ants. That night, Hubby sprayed some old Dursban around baseboards/window sill (btw: there was a hole in the inside corner of said window).
Friday, saw more ants (scattered around the room; NMT 20 total all day, I'd guess); Hubby sprayed again that night. He skipped Saturday; we vacuumed up all bodies but he still sprayed again Sunday (even tho ants seemed to be diminishing, he's trigger-happy). Monday, vacuumed window "hole" and caulked it; sprinkled Orthene outside window and sill (extending about 5 ft. to outside garage door - and, yes, there is moisture there from the AC unit which is between said window and said door).
Since then, other than a few dead/dying bodies, no more active ants (inside or out by the window) and, thank God, no more spraying. Anyway, I'm thinking we had our "invasion" due to a nest in the dead limb, coupled with extremely muggy weather (we live in FL) not to mention that the week before we almost had to evacuate due to wildfires.
No munching inside walls; about 5 of the ants we saw were "winged"; ants never made a solid trail or concentration (i.e., they were simply here, there, here, there in one room and the surrounding area). We have many trees of all varieties (palms, pines, oaks, citrus, etc.) but have never had this many CAs in the house (no matter the season).....your thoughts, please.
