I live in SE Denver Colorado. Every year for about 5 years or so, for roughly a week in late June, I seem to have what I now know as a Carpenter Ant problem. okay issue. In the laundry room between my lower family room and the garage, I have 2 fluorescent lights with teh plastic covering. During this time of year, in the morning there will be 20-100 dead, or almost dead winged ants in the light and on the floor. With this being at least the 5th year of this, I started to look into what they were. It would appear they are winged carpenter ants. So I called out Orkin to evaluate the issue. I have read you have to find the nest to fix the problem. The guy stands in the laundry room, and I think for show, asked me for ladder when standing on my dryer did not work for him, and ultimately spends maybe 5 minutes loking around with a small useless flashlight. Tells me I have huge issue, with a colony in my crawlspace adajcent to my basement(NEVER went to basement). Decides can treat for $800 now or $60/month, neitehr of which will actually guarantee elimination of the colony, nor could he tell me whether or not there was any damage to my home. I was ready to have another place come out when I found this site. I guess my question is what are the cahnces my home has any structural damage from the colony working its way through the word?
