Yeah, some of the guys can make it pretty scary.... I've heard some outrageous stories from people. Even some exterminators that I think are fairly good guys can be pushy. I'm sure it's a quest for the almighty dollar.
At any rate, your "problem" doesn't really sound like a problem at all. From the sound of it, I would guess they're just foraging workers. They can get inside a house pretty easily, anytime they want.
The fact that you see them "all over" is what confirms that, at least from where I sit. And if someone around here describes what you did, I think it's a little iffy to apply chemicals for a few foragers. To get rid of those I'd have to go "whole hog" and even then I might not be entirely successful, and I don't like to do call-backs for a few workers.
So I think you'd be better off doing nothing and just put up with a few during the season. After all, they're not dirty, don't vector or carry any diseases, and to have "damage" from these little guys, you'd be seeing 50-100 a day! And even then, it would be the moisture problem you would worry about, not the ants. They are just a symptom of the problem!
In short, don't worry about it.
