I am so glad to have found your web page, as we are getting desperate for help. We purchased a home that had been vacant for 2 years. Rotten deck, leaky basement, leaky mansard roof filled with blown in insulation, overhanging trees- all very inviting to carpenter ants, and boy are they loving it here.We have removed the deck and overhanging trees, and gutted the bathroom beneath the leaky roof and repaired (patched) the roof. We found a trail of ants going into our chimney from the outside, put out some Terro, and after a week or so we stopped seeing them. There. Then we started finding them more frequently in the house. We have used a product called Timbor in a powder form, and blown it into the mansard roof all the way around the exterior of the house. Better? Heck no! Now we have more ants (some quite large and white and black striped). They are literally falling out of our ceiling light fixtures. If there is still a moisture problem other than in the basement, we are unaware of it. Does anyone know how long it takes for the Timbor to work? Any suggestions? We cut a "window" in our kitchen soffit and it looks like a nightclub in there! Up to 50 at a time in that area alone, as well as 50 straglers per day in virtually every room in the house. Everyone suggests following them, but they never seem to go anywhere!
