I am not sure what type of ants I have, but they are surely seasonal, as they entered last year as soon as the weather cooled, and did the same this year. (We are in the Midwest.) The strange thing about them is, even when eliminated from kitchen and bathroom areas, you will still see a few crawling across the middle of the living room carpet! ARGH! What could they want in there?!
Anyway, I set out Terro baits, at first with apparent success. Then they were back en force, and suddenly a few started crawling up the walls and onto the ceilings, something they had NEVER done before. They always stayed on the floor, picking up whatever crumbs were down there, I assume. Now I am seeing them on bathroom and kitchen surfaces as well.
What would suddenly cause them to elevate this way? Am I doing something wrong with the baits? I place them where I initially saw ants. I am trying to go the relatively "non-toxic" route, as I have two babies, ages 1 and under!!
I rent a house so the landlord would have to pick up the pest tab, but I am hesitant to call the exterminator because of the kids. One note on the house--it is on a slab, with no basement. I wonder if this could be contributing to the problem somehow.
Thanks so much for the great info on this website!
