I want to have the exterminator come in case we get an "army" of carpenter ants to the house descending across the yard like last year plus we have millions of pavement ants in the ground level brick patio each year. Since it leaves a residue and we do get water in the basement when it rains a lot plus the melt from the mountains of snow in MA - would it mix OK with Shockwave (ingredients below) disinfectant if rain brought some in? Hubby periodically sprays the 4'x4' pit where the sump pump ans main sewerpipe is with bleach also.
My problem is we had a couple of mice in the rafters of the basement where I can't really get at -- mice are gone and I had a wildlife company come and fill all holes outside. They checked with their telescope and found droppings up there on the wood wherever the holes were and will be coming to do clean up. However, I also have to have a sewerpipe up by the ceiling replaced right in the nest area and since the plumber's nose will be right in it I have to do cleanup first. Those wildlife guys do not have a HEPA vac but a little hand held one and they were going to use some kind of orange disinfectant. Since I will be using Shockwave disinfectant (quantinery ammonium chloride) after the plumber leaves in that same area should I have the wildlife guys use that instead (however it is a 10 minute kill time and I don't know if they would wait that long) as I don't want a chemical reaction and they don't know either. Maybe you have a suggestion as to how they should do this clean up.
Re: the mice -- kind of funny -- we had asbestos tile removal on the 1st floor level a few steps up from the basement and about 2 weeks after that there was a terrible odor in the basement and I had an air purifier running down there 24/7 and right behind it was a dead mouse.....my first clue to the mice. Then I saw the maple tree seeds up in the rafters - 2nd clue. With the air purifier going the smell was all over and I believe the stuff the remediators used overcame the little bugger -- darn near killed me - it took months to get the odor out of my dryer and stove and they had everything plasticed off with 6 mil plastic but the smell was overpowering.
I really can't get to behind the sewerpipe where the nest is but do you think I should just forget about disinfecting and just use the central vac for the droppings along the rafters of the basement - it has been months since the droppings were dropped. The wildlife guy saw the mouse that was left and caught him while he was there and said it was a field mouse and left traps in the suspect areas which are still undisturbed so they are gone. Perhaps they are no longer a problem at this point.
Sorry this is so long but I just can't win...even the new vinyl tile put down on that ist floor level is not sticking -- nothing goes right around here since I hit 70.
Thanks for your advice - hoefully I can still have the Termidor applied along the foundation without worrying about a reaction inside although it would be watered down.
