Love your site! Thanks so much for the honesty.
I had a nest of carpenter ants in the between the walls in my sunroom a couple of years ago. The exterminator charged me $900 for a series of treatments that I doubt really worked as I kept finding ants in the kitchen. I finally stopped the ants from appearing by caulking up every tiny space in the walls and cupboards so they couldn't get out from between the walls where they were living. Now I've seen some of the winged reproductives strolling around my dining room and living room. I'll bet that they're back in the sunroom walls.
Last summer I had the outside of the house painted and the painters showed me how the wood framework around the sunroom windows was rotten. They caulked it up to prevent water getting in, but I know I'm going to be up for new framing this summer. Sorry for the long explanation; here's my question: If I have the windows taken out and find ants in the walls, is sucking them out with the shop vac enough? Should I also spread insecticide around between the walls so they don't come back? Finally, what do I do with my shop vac full of ants!!!!????
