John, in one of our upstairs bedrooms we've had a Vicks humidifier on overnights over the winter months and have found a few wandering CAs in the room from Feb - March (no biggie). We've shut off the humidifier approx 3 wks ago and for a few days no CAs showed. However, over the past 2 wks, they returned in larger numbers - both with winged males, females, and workers/soldiers. It's clear that they're entering through the gaps (caught in the act!) between the inside window trims and any gaps existing when the andersen windows were installed years ago. FYI - we have wood shakes as siding outside the window. Few of the CAs make their way further into the room (and only this room with CA presence in entire house thus far) from the window whereas say 80% remain in/around the window area, mostly dead or close to it. It appears they are swarming as most of the approx 25 - 50 per day are winged males as of yesterday, though I did kill about 3 winged females and a few non-winged workers. We masking taped the trim gaps around entire window, with 4 RAID baits as only possible point of entry last night. Since then, we've not seen 1 more CA (likely due to a good masking tape job sealing the gaps rather than the bait working because I know they don't work) , but are VERY concerned with the possibility of a nest somewhere between drywall and siding. Also not sure why the CAs - winged or not, appear to die so quickly on the window sill and the nearby carpet area on their own after entry? Should we rush out to a local exterminator for a 1-time Termidor/Phantom treatment or should we wait to see if they reappear in some way via other areas in which case may be too late? Your advice and insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks, C.
