We took off the lower window molding, and there were plenty of carpenter ants. (Black ants about 1/2 inch in length, only crawling, not flying)
We vacuumed at least 100.
We pulled out all the insulation behind the molding The insulation was slightly damp in some places.
After a couple of hours, we can still see the ants traveling way inside the window. I can't reach them to vacuum them up.
We don't have a shop vac, just used the regular house vacuum(and threw out the bag with all the ants).
I know you said to leave off the molding for a few days, but I am too worried the ants will come into the bedroom. So we put it back.
So far we havn't had any ants inside the bedroom.
The slight crackling sound is back.
We can't tell where moisture is coming in.
It is an upstairs bedroom, so not easy to check.
One thing we didn't mention, under the window is an in the wall A/C. We've had that for about 7 years. Never had a problem.
We replaced this window about 26-27 years ago.
What would you recommend at this point?
Thank you very much for your help.
