Here is my situation:
We have a partially finished basement in our house. It has had a moisture problem in the past, however a sump pump now removes any water and since we moved in there has been no water in the basement.
Shortly after we bought the house a small pile of dead ants appeared in the basement in the corner of a small room. We swept them up with the vaccumm and haven't seen any for several months. Recently more dead ants appeared (approx. 3 wks ago) and the area of dead ants is now about 2 feet wide at most (It hasn't gotten any bigger in the last week).
The ceiling above the area where they collect is open. The insulation between the basement and the floor above is visible and some parts of the floor boards. I have yet to see a live ant in the house or in the bedroom (which is right above the area the dead ants are).
Should I have an exterminator look at this?
I've heard they live in insulation, should I have it removed?
We also have spiders in the basement. My plan right now is to thoroughly clean the basement, vaccumm up all webs, eggs (and spiders!), and attempt to seal any holes they may hide in. Would this have any impact on a possible ant problem?
Any advice would be great! Thanks!
