Found carpenter ants a couple of wks ago near fireplace outside. Had exterminator come out and he injected some kind of gel into the cracks.

Today, I found a carpenter ant run on the other side of the house and got some Combat Ant Killing Gel at HD. I put down a few dabs in the run but noticed the ants did not eat it. Some stopped briefly but did not take any. Does this mean this gel is not effective or will they likely take some later?

Saw a good recommendation from a user of Maxforce Gel which happens to contain the same active ingredient. Couldn't find this brand locally. Suggestions?
