I found a lot of smaller(1/8" or so) black ants running around in my window sill and they had brought a large amount of their eggs there too. The sills are covered in aluminum and not overly moist. I have seen no frass. They also were coming in the opposite side of the house and into the kitchen. We did spray but we were able to track them back to where they were coming in on both sides and put ant bait disks near there. Now they seem to have gone back down under ground for the time being but I am concerned that they were carpenter ants (not sure). we also have found damage on our wood side steps but are not sure where those ants may be coming and going. What should we do to protect our house? Is this an exterminator issue or do we get bait specific to carpenter ants? I am confused as to what to do. Please HELP!
