I really appreciate your candid articles about these carpenter ants. We live in Pitman, NJ and have just started noticing carpenter ants about 4 weeks ago. Coincidentally I just got all new mulch put it during that time. We've also had alot of rain during that time. I was told by people that "you have to get rid of the ants...they will destroy your home", so I naturally called an exterminator and paid $115 for a service that has done nothing. There is no rhyme or reason to where we see the ants in our house. We see anywhere from 0-7 a day (mostly around 3). They are not in 1 given room. We live in a split level and they have been seen upstairs in our bathroom and our childs bedroom, on the main floor (kitchen and living room), and downstairs (bathroom, laundry room)...Tonight I got frieked because one was crawling on my face and just woke me up...Is this a "temporary problem" that I should just wait out, or do you think I need to locate nests and take steps to eliminate. Like I said an extemrinator came out and sprayed and dusted in both bathrooms, but to no avail...It actually has increased the activity since he treated it 5 days ago.
