Just about every call we get (nowadays) is for ants, so you are not alone. The amount you're seeing could just be occasional invaders - that's really not a whole lot. And the fact that you're seeing them "all over" means that they're coming in "all over." And yes, the mulch could have something to do with it - or not!

I would wait a little bit, a couple of weeks anyway, to see what happens. And no, they won't destroy your house, that's just silly.

If it keeps up, or gets worse, the cure is an inside/outside treatment with Phantom/Termidor. Works wonders and generally lasts the entire season. Your exterminator should have proposed this treatment - for not much more than you paid.
