I had carpenter ants from the beginning. My old deck was rotting---had it replaced, my roof (especially the foscia) had problems ---had it replaced. This year I was blitzed by carpenter ants. They were everywhere. I used aerosol sprays in the walls after drilling 1/8" holes between studs. I then found about 1000+ under attic insulation and just living on wood in attic(they did not seem to damage any wood). I blasted them with spray, moved and found dozens and dozens more under multiple pieces of insulation. There seems to be about 10 'satellite nests'. Long story short---I had to pull up tons of insulation to find the little monsters BUT I think I may have won. The ants rejected all of the high end baits---advance, max force. I had to slaughter them one by one.
