Frankly, wih the amount of sightings you describe, I don't think it's doing anything that costs money, because unless you discover the source, any shotgun treatments are only going to be effective at the proper time, and that is not in the winter.

Await spring, keep a log of your problems and assess the situation in the spring or early summer.

Putting out ant baits as "preventives" is something I consider unnecessary, unless under special circumstances.
