HI! I live on NW CA land in Berkeley with 17 oaks, boulders, and a lovely cedar hot tub which get ants that leave their lovely spores that break down the wood on rim of the hot tub, and then the ants come harvest the broken down cellulosey stuff. Now they've even started boarding in the cover! THey bite us if we lean against the side of the tub when they're active. Not very relaxing :-).
SOmeone has told us before that they've seen a sizeable nest right in the ground under the hot tub deck.
I don't want to spray too much. Last tub we painted with marine acrylic on the top. Ultimately it ruined the tub, sent "veins" of decomposition down through wood that compromised the bottome of tub. Tub guys told us Cedar was pest resistant tunrs out not very.
COnsidering sanding and putting wax on rim now. BUt clearly we aint' getting rid of the "moisture issue" here. Any hot ideas? Thanks.
