After 150 years, if they're not there now, I wouldn't worry about them.... They won't attack GOOD wood, only wood damaged by something else, like water. "Spraying the wood" will only last moments. If you really want to be anal about it, paint them. Two coats of alkyd-based primer, then two coats of latex enamel.
