Hi John,
I have stayed away form big-name exterminators, and now I need your advice! This winter I became an accidental farmer - of carpenter ants! They're very happy ants, well fed and so forth, very friendly as well. I was hoping they would move outside when the weather gets warm so a local exterminator could close up the farm. But they are great explorers, going eveywhere, dying in my carpet, showing up in my bed. I think they have to go. I did my research - fed them honey water and watched as they went back home. I found two trails. One goes to an opening by a kitchen cabinet, against an outside wall. The other leads upstairs to a hollow door. I can hear scratching. Ant nest. Hmm. Then last week, more ants! In my refrigerator! Pesky little critters! There's a small hole formed by the fitings, and from there the ants go into the space between the food compartment and the wall of the refrigerator. I have seen ants going in that hole, but I don't know how far they've travelled. Maybe they came out and went right back in. They seem pretty lively, and most of the ants that are very far into the food compartment are either dead or moving slowly. Would a little honey and borax on the door shelf be a good idea?

I woud really appreciate any suggestions you have - both about the refrigerator and the hollow door. I can wait till spring to treat the wall, I hate having ants in my refrigerator, and I don't like the scratching either! Please help!!
