Do I have a nest? Did I prevent the start of one?

I live near Minneapolis. A week ago (April 1st) I noticed some ants on the outside of a window sill. I just moved into this house in March 1. I had also noticed the stray ant in the room next door. One exterminator suggested that I just spray the window sill. I did. I killed about 40 ants. The image link shows what I found. The window is a casement. There were many ants around and in the crank mechanism, along with the "tubes" in the picture. A few ants had wings. I removed the trim below the window and there was nothing unusual. Based upon the pictures should I start a quest to find a nest? Thanks.
