Swarms of winged carpenter ants

Last week, and last night, i have been invaded by swarms of winged carpenter ants around a side table lamp inside my house. they are no where else. I have no idea where they are coming from, there is not a moisture problem in that location, and i do not see any piles of "sawdust". I have 4 cats so i'll spray them with hairspray then vaccuum them up, i really need this to stop my family is on the verge of a nervous breakdown--they appeared around the same time (3:00 am) both times. any advice would be helpful.
