When I bought my house a year ago the previous owners dog had damaged the wood. As I had bigger fixes I covered it and let it be. Today I noticed my drywall bulging a little. Took it off and found about 50-100 carpenter ants (many carrying the larva but none of them had wings) in a small section of my wall crawling through the insulation. I removed that and all hints of the ants. The wood is decayed on the other side (back of house) I can see how they may have gotten into that small section and the other 2 are "ant free" this was about 10 hours ago and I am still seeing 1-2 ants wandering through my living room. Does it look like I found the nest that was encouraged by the dead wood and these 1-2 ants are stranglers finding their way back? I know I have a lot of repairs to do but I want to hope and pray I got all the ants and their not elsewhere in my house. Thank you
