Some ants just live outside... And ants don't eat trees - in fact, they are actually beneficial to trees. And as far as "biting" is concerned, some ants bite, some ants sting - others do neither. It depends on what kind of ant you have.

You need a proper ID for the ants to tell any of that. Take a few samples to your county agricultural agent for an ID. Then you will know better what you need to do, or not do!
