I've been getting citronella ant swarms in my house every few months. I thought they were coming from the air ducts in the slab foundation, but today I noticed large piles of dirt along a wall in a closet.

There were swarmers (both male and female), as well as small yellow workers wandering around inside the closet. I vacuumed them up, and more came out of the space between the drywall and the floor, until I poured Borax into the gap. Perhaps they'll excavate this tonight.

Normally you never see the workers unless you pull up a stone or something outside, so this worries me.

Do I tear a hole in the wall and see what's going on in there, or should I call an exterminator and have them spray? I know that baits are ineffective for citronella ants, so that avenue is out.
