First admission, I am anal about carpenter ants and simply cannot handle it. I found one on my kitchen floor, took it to an entomologist at my local county health dept. and he measured it, it was 3/4 of an inch long! He confirmed it was indeed a carpenter ant.
I made several calls, ended up with two exterminators at my house at the same time. lol It was kind of awkward. One was a national one and the other a local guy. I did not like the local guy at all as he told me I needed to get a grip and it was really no big deal. The national guy, he was nicer but he couldnt get anyone to my house( he was an inspector only) until tomorrow at least. Well, being the freak I am, I said no way, it's gotta be done now. So the local guy won. He really didnt push his services, I made it plain, I WANTED services. I am not one to sit and wait it out. Both guys determined in the basement that there didnt appear to be an inside problem. They thought it was my Locust tree outside. Actually a year ago I noticed big ants on the tree but tried to not overreact and just let it go. And now here I am a year later and one got in. Heck maybe there are more for all I know. So the local guy told me I would need 4 treatments, every other month at $75.00 each. Actually I dont find that too terrible really. I didnt sign anything though so dont know if I am bound to the other 3 treatments??
Ok so my question is....I am afraid of the poisens he used inside and outside. He has been in business for 30 years and he used Demand CS, something called PI or PL? ALso Delta Dust and Delta Gard. I dont know what was used where. I know he did outside, and downstairs and then along the baseboards in my dining room which is by my patio door and also in some cracks and crevices. I have a dog and my dog isnt super curious and doesnt get into things so I am not too worried about that but wondering when is it safe for him to go outside in the back yard again? Right now I am going out with him, we have fenced in yard. I just go out to watch to make sure he doesnt do too much sniffing around.
He treated the tree, used some granules and something in a large tin can with hose and sprayed something into the opening at the base of the tree, he told me to stand back for that. Yet he had no mask on and he was right up close to it.
Can you tell me when I can let my dog out to roam on his own again? And do I need all the other treatments? And yes, I know I overreacted but I wanted to not let a problem begin.
Thanks for your time!
