I live in Gibbons, Alberta, Canada. We live on an acreage surrounded by trees. We do know of an active nest of carpenter ants in a tree 50 ft from the house.
Over the last few months we have noticed increased ant activity outside (from all types of ants). We especially noticed more carpenter ant activity around our deck, made of pressure treated wood attached to the house. This is when we started noticing a few in the house. We have never seen more than 5 in a day, and we continue to remove them, but yet keep finding a few more every day. Was able to track down to one location they are hiding, which is in wall next to door jamb of exterior door. Noticed they were able to enter/exit the house due to improper door sealing - we have fixed this.
I'm not sure if we have a developing satellite nest - and if so, what the best course of action is? We have simply been following them (if possible) and removing them when found to date.
