The holes were probably already there, the ants wouldn't have made any hole like that. They would just take advantage of any holes or cracks that were already there. And don't forget, they might not even be carpenter ants. Many kinds of ants will act like that. It really makes no difference to you, you just want them gone, right?

Just tape up the holes with a bit of tape and JUST WATCH.

Depending on how handy you and hubby are, you could just take off the door, take it outside for a day or two and freeze the little bastards. I know, not quite as satisfying as crushing them with your foot or something...

And maybe that will tell you if the nest is somewhere else.

Take your time, this is NBD. A big deal is when you have HUNDREDS, every day!
