Hi John,

Great site! I came across this earlier and wish I would have seen the message board, not sure how I missed it. Anyway I was hoping you could help me out!

I bought my house last July and since then My wife and I were seeing ants randomly, nothing with enough volume to be concerned about, but now suddenly they are 50-100 winged per day coming out of our skylight, they appear to be either the males or females trying to get out and create new nests.. I have searched around and found that about 10 feet away next to the back door (outside) there is a vent, right inside that vent I can see a decent amount of ant activity, and it looks like a solid board (maybe a few feet by a few feet) is bowed down from what looks like moisture. I would love to say that there is attic space above there, but there's not. The rest of the house has attic space but this one room has a high ceiling and that's where the skylights are.

I plan to take the vent off and poke around at it with a stick and split it open (shouldn't take much) and see what happens (with the shop vac handy) i'm expecting that's their nest, so my ideal great day would be that pops down and kapow here come the ants, suck them up and be done with the little guys..! Back to normal.

I purchased Advance bait, and Maxforce Gel tubes, and I was planning to put those right inside that vent before I seal it back up (after vacuuming up what I hope is the nest) in hopes that any other ants coming around that area or out will take it to any remaining nests. I also plan to go in the attic and look around thoroughly, take care of any additional nests I can find and put out some more of the bait around there.. I have looked but didn't see anything interesting in the attic at this time, but it's filled with insulation puffs and very hard to see and move around in there..

I just really am hoping for a reality check, does that seem like a pretty good plan? I've seen videos online where they use the dust into the origin for the ants and thousands of ants pour out dead in minutes, that seems too good to be true, or maybe for a specific situation that isn't what i'm having.. and I don't know how I feel about using a dust, especially seeing as how my wife is pregnant..! Her parents live about a mile and a half away (and I actually like them haha!) so we have considered doing a treatment like that and staying with them for a few days while the killing finishes up..

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am going crazy here..

Thank you! I'm so glad there's honest pro's around still. Almost everywhere you call just wants to come and charge you an obscene amount to bomb your house.

Will Poff
