Hmmmm. You want a job? lol
You did fine, in spite of probably using more than you actually needed to... But that's ok, you're not really out of bounds.
To give you some idea of what I might use, over the past few weeks we've had the same ant problems that everybody is having right now, exterminator's offices aren't immune. Anyway, a week or so ago, I did our office window areas around the outside myself. Only I did it with a Windex bottle - and I still had some left! No problem since - so sometimes that's all you need.
By the same token, I have, on more than one occasion, had to power spray the outside of this (duplex) building. So it does depend on lots of variables.
As far as doing the trees? Sure, as you describe. You don't need to "soak to run-off," in fact two separate (light) treats would be better. And you might not need the second at all. Try for once per season, if you can.
Forget the attic.
Want a job? Pay isn't that good, but we have fun!
