You are a Godsend indeed!!! Please help!!
We have a small studio in the woods with no trees touching the building. There are ant nests around in the forest.
The inside of the studio is unfinished, just bare studs backed by plywood, tarpaper and cedar siding, so there is no place hidden from view for ants to make a nest. The roof is metal and the sofits are a white plastic product.
Starting a few weeks ago I noticed a line of fine white plastic powder on the floor along an inside wall. The powder must be coming from the sofits tucked under the eaves outside. I am assuming that carpenter ants are chewing it up for its nutritional value?
I found a line of carpenter ants going up an outside wall, followed them back to a nest, poured boiling water on nest, so it's no more. I can no longer find any evidence of ants anywhere inside or on the outer walls of the studio however everyday I vaccuum up the white powder and every day there is a new line of it on the floor. I have seen the odd ant in the vicinity of the sofits and observed a couple crawling through the little ventilation holes in the white plastic sofit.
My next step is to go out there with a flashlight at night. But then what?
What is going on? What should I do?
