Mary, I did get your email, but I prefer to answer on this message board, so visitors can see your questions and answers.

Not sure what your soffits are made of, but CAs don't "eat" plastic. They will burrow into some foam or plastics, but just to make a home for themselves. I think that is what's happening there.

Do you have an exterminator? If not, seek out a local guy (skip the biggies) and have him do a Termidor treatment around the outside of your house. Most times this will cure the problem, often for the whole season. This is NOT something you need a "contract" for. Make sure you get an exterminator, not a salesman.
