Because bees are "social," and because they forage in the spring, they are much more likely to contact Fipronil in their travels. Bees, of course, are beneficial insects, so you try not to kill them. Killing bees is definitely a no-no.
As far as the 'twice a year' thing, I don't think I have ever needed to use it more than that. But I don't think using it more than 2 times would be a misapplication. Continuous or regular treatments with Termidor are never necessary.
You should see some definite let up in a week or two. Be patient, the ants are really harmless.
