Last year I had noticed a lot of wood dust coating my second floor
bay window. I inspected and saw that something has been burrowing
into the fascia below the soffits . I started hearing a popping noise inside
the house in the recessed part of the ceiling over the bay window.
I looked on line and tried a few remedies and nothing really worked.
I couldn't see where they were coming from but the exterminator thought
they may be climbing up the cedar that was touching the corner of the
house. I was not happy with none of the three exterminators. One wouldn't
guarantee that he could get rid of them and didn't like the idea that he had
to deal with the soffit or go up in the attic plus a $500 quote plus ongoing
maintenance fee! The other two were ridiculous to mention but one did
tell me that they will be gone late fall which did happen.....
Should I have done something then when they were dormant.
I hear them again now and see the sawdust outside the fascia again.
I bought some borax as I was told that it works. Any suggestions about
getting the product in this tight location up on the outside of the second
floor. Should I go in the attic instead? Will they be under the glass
insulation? I have since cut the tree down so will they still be able to
travel back and forth? Do they eventually die off? Do they eat out of
the gutter outside the fascia wall?
