first let me say, BEST. BUG. WEBSITE. EVER!
I'm in Virginia Beach, VA
now, i would have bet my life back in may we had carpenter ants. there were two frass piles in either corner behind my refrigerator, pulled out the baseboard there was tunneling INTO the baseboard, but only went in about 6 inches, and NO moisture anywhere around. winged ants showing up in the kitchen every morning for a couple weeks despite my efforts of vinegar, shop vac, terro baits and diatomaceous earth. some mornings a couple, others 15-20. without going into lengthy details,(not even sure if it was from MY efforts or not) after about 4 weeks, no more. fast forward to about a month ago, little black ants. ok, no problem, deal with it all the time, whip out the terro baits…not working like usual, so, after seeing them climbing up the foundation, around the house I go sealing all the cracks outside, and putting terro granules around the perimeter of the house. ants still in the house..ok, pull out the magnifying glass to get a positive I.D on the little suckers, yup, run of the mill pavement ants, while googling more about them, I learned pavement ants also have winged swarmers (as do most ants?) news to me. So…i had sticky traps in the garage, which happened to still be there from the swarmer "invasion", collecting a spider here and there, but also had a couple winged ants still stuck to it. so, i pull out the magnifying glass and I *think* they WERE pavement swarmers? Is this possible? The frass and the tunnels is what has thrown me off, and since I didn't know other ants had swarmers, when i looked at them the first time, it was just to make sure they weren't termites, which was pretty obvious. i'm going to try to attach an image link, which will hopefully help you help me solve my dilemma!
