Hi John,
In my hours of searching online, I found your site and have enjoyed your realistic, calming approach. I need your help please.

I see many carpenter ants especially outside heading up my foundation and going behind my siding. I've had a battle for some time but this summer it seems to be big.

About 4 years ago I noticed a colony in my garage after I had a water leak thanks to some poor craftsmanship. They removed the water damage, vacuumed up the ants and fixed the leak.

Last summer I noticed ants heading a cross my driveway, and many going up my foundation. I learned about boric acid, sugar and water on cotton balls and soon after I saw very few ants.

This year, I've had two separate times this summer where a I saw 50+ ants all at once in my foundation walking on the sill. Pulled out the insulation since the walls are unfinished and I did not see any water damage both times. I again used my boric and within a few days there were not ants.

However, I continue to see ants walking on my deck, farmers porch, foundation and I follow them behind the siding. I have tried to chaulk and use foam insulation to areas that they might enter through but it's virtually impossible to seal every space between the siding. For the most part, I see one or two ants inside the house every couple of days.

I resist callin an exterminator because I'm afraid if the scare tactics. I suspect maybe an outside and inside nest? I do not hear them in the walls and I don't think I see any dust piles they make.

Any help you can provide I'd appreciate.

George
