I'm pretty sure I already know what you're going to say which is wait, stay alert, and see if anything else develops.
Basically, my issue is that I have seen carpenter ants in my home, but it is always a single ant at a time. Usually, I only see one ant a day. Sometimes, two ants, but never in the same room. And sometimes I go days without seeing any ants.
Recently, I returned from vacation to a toilet that had sprung a leak while we were gone. It was probably only dripping for a couple of days. In any event it did cause some water damage. However, the water mitigation crew was out the same day we arrived home and pulled out all the wet carpet, dry wall, and ceiling. They also set up all their drying equipment and they declared the house dry after four days of the constant whir of the fans and de-humidifiers.
Now, of course, we are in the throes of repairing the damage.
It was after this incident that we started seeing the occasional carpenter ant. I have never seen a "line of ants".
Should we be worried?
