Doesn't matter what kind of mulch you use, out in the open it really isn't an attraction for CAs. They are more attracted to hidden areas with some moisture and little air change. Houses have LOTS of that inside walls, or anything else with that criteria. Mulch at will. If you use stones, use the large river rocks, they will stay in place better.

Difficult to say... People (exterminators) sometimes make a guess, but that's all it is, just a guess. There are many variables. Probably years.

Don't worry about it. You know the cure. Worry more about that Mack truck coming down the street...
