Hi John and others. Great site. Well managed.
Anyhow, Our home was recently victim to a carpenter ant invasion via electrical lines. Upon closer inspection, they were from a nest in a tree that I shortly thereafter trimmed so that he limbs no longer provided an avenue for these critters. I also sealed the siding in the spaces that they were coming through properly. We had water damage but have had that repaired in the last few months. (new roof and respective components)
So.....after about a week or two of taking care of the ant entry point (I am fairly confident there are none others), we see lots of them in the house. About a tenth of them are the big winged ones, maybe 80 percent are regular looking, and about 10 percent are dead or dying...but not in piles. I kill about 15 per day, mostly at night. Most of them were big ones when it started and now I see smaller ones, but not significantly smaller.
Finally my question. Do you think it possible that I have locked their satellite nest in and now they are just seeking food/water as usual....but this time in my house? And if so, is it just a matter of time until they starve or dehydrate?
Thanks in advance
