Hi. I am so impressed with this message board - thank you. I, like so many other home-owners - most likely stumbled across this board after discovering ants where they don't belong - and panicked... what to do what to do...

Anyway - all within the last week or so I have noticed a few ants in my one spare bedroom - bi level home - upper level - prairies in Canada. At first thought - ahh whatever - its spring - a few bugs get in once in a while... no biggie. After this continued for a few days - again 4 or 5 ants per day so not huge - I thought I better investigate a little more... Moved some furniture away from the wall - and - more black ants... then I noticed a few of them going back and forth under the baseboard - this is an outer wall by the way - I moved another cabinet and discovered a small row of "sawdust" along the baseboard for a few inches. So - I grabbed the vacuum and cleaned up the ants, the "sawdust" and a couple of years worth of dust bunnies too. Things were going good until I got real close to the wall in one area and bumped it and several (15 to 20) scurried out from under the baseboard - disturbed them I guess... so (wish I had come here first) - I panicked and grabbed the RAID. Killed them... but now I wonder a couple of things....

1 - Did I just send them packing a few feet down the wall to a new hiding place - waiting for me to discover them?

2 - They were all fairly small - less than a quarter inch - some up to a half inch - no bigger for sure. My understanding was carpenter ants were quite large (and scary looking) - or are these all really young ones yet??... it is possible these are pavement ants or some other ones? Are carpenter ants the only ones that leave the "sawdust" behind?

As far as I know - I have no water issues anywhere near this part of the house - or outside... only a few tree branches on the ground that I trimmed last fall several yards from the house - waiting to be disposed this spring - no signs of carpenter ants anywhere there....

Lots of small black ants - same kind I think - outside all over pavement (adjacent to same wall with current issues inside) and general yard area...

So - I picked up some terro traps for outside areas - and I have some of the liquid bait for them to carry back to the nest(s) - can be used in or out. Also picked up some borax - have not applied or done anything with these things yet...

Need your suggestions with how best to proceed. Should I use the liquid bait near where I seen the ants going under the baseboard - after cleaning up the raid of course... sprinkle borax? or make a borax/water spray? I just really want to get this under control before it gets worse - do NOT want ants appearing in ours or our sons bedroom....

Sorry for the long post... and Thank you for your help....
