Well, in exterminating, I've always said you do the cheapest thing first. In YOUR case, it wouldn't be spraying repellants around the place, or even outside. Use a repellant outside and you run the risk of trapping them on the inside, you don't want to do that.
Look at it this way: They've been there awhile... Maybe a LONG while. So going on the "wait and watch" thing certainly isn't going to matter much. Besides, you KNOW about it and you're DOING something about it, even if you're just waiting and watching and using the vacuum.
If it persists, and there seems to be nothing you can do about it, the next thing would be determined by what has happened in the interim - from now until then, whenever that is. So just cool it for now and see what progresses. Keep the vacuum and the paper bag handy. Both help a lot!
And don't worry about it.
