Hello. Last summer we noticed a cluster of (30-50) ants one day (maybe two days) that were pouring out of a small hole of our front porch roof. We didn't think too much of it but my husband does not like pests, so he taped some traps up nearby the hole and we didn't see any again...until this spring. The other day it was very warm out and they were pouring out of the hole again and this time out of a crack between the house (stucco) and the porch railing (wood) as well. I would say it was a hundred or more. I don't usually like to use traps or sprays (so I like all your non-toxic advise!) but my husband had bought some spray and I grabbed it out of panic and went to town on them. It was just so many. We haven't seem any since. After reading your site, I'm thinking it might just be a warm weather transient issue. But I wanted to hear your thoughts. Its not really possible to open up the roof without it becoming a huge project. We also don't see any wood /water damage. It is an older home, 100+ years. Thanks so much for your time.
