We bought our house ~ 7 months ago and knew we would have humidity issues in the basement. We were pleasantly surprised that we made it until June before getting above 70%. Now we have the dehumidifier running to maintain 70% (very little electricity use). Should we set the humidity lower? I ask because we have had a lot of rain in the past weeks and the carpenter ants are showing up more.

At first it was ~ 1/2 dozen on the carpet each day, sometimes dead but others are foraging. However, as the rain continues I find a dozen or more each day. I vacuum them up and spray the baseboards corners, but it seems that is pointless.

I have read that a borax and sugar mixture or Terro left out at strategic points will help. I am ordering Termidor tomorrow to spray the outside. By the way, your site is very refreshing and honest. I am thankful for the advice

Carl
