Hi John, I'm gonna inform you I like to talk and often write too much so I will try to make this somewhat quick (yeah right) lol.

Back in May I noticed some sounds coming from certain walls in my house. I would hear a very light "Tap" noise every few minutes. Sounds exactly like if you take the tip of your fingernail and lightly tap it against your walls.
I figured an old house and some settling was going on or something, 4-5 weeks later my gf and I noticed carpenter ants on the floors of the living room and kitchen. I went to home depot the next day and put those cheap Terro liquid bait traps on the sill plates in the basement under where I heard the sounds and a couple upstairs along the walls.
That evening, they were feasting on them (20+) workers per trap walkng back into walls. The next morning ....no signs of them. We still saw some on the basement floors though. The only damagae I have seen is one of my rim joists in the basement has some hollowed out damage. (doesn't look moist or water damaged).
I inspected my attics the best I could and didn't seen any ants.

I had an exterminator come out 3 weeks ago this past Friday and he dusted/baited some areas of the basement where ive seen them and he sprayed Termidor NY along the outside perimeter of house. I know regular Termidor SC is illegal in NY.

I've only seen 3-4 dead ones in the basement over the past 3 weeks. I haven't seen any live ones anywhere inside.

Only problem now is I still hear noises in various walls. My old house has 3 layers of siding on it. The original wood, asbestos and vinyl on top. I am afraid they are possibly in between these layers and the Termidor will not do its job due to that. Some of the taps I hear are coming from around windows. I have removed some trim and cant see anything. All I see is wood window frame and plaster. Sometimes the tap noises seem to move from area to area. I have heard them in 1 interior wall also.

I have not seen any outside on siding over the past few weeks also. Any idea how often they come out and forage ? I have some Advance Carpenter any bait here for protein appetite and some Advion Bait for sugar/sweet appetites. I know they are picky and may choose either.

I would rather see them and not hear them rather then the opposite I am experiencing.

I like how you tell people on here not to panic....they are just ants lol, but I panic a lot....these things have really been disturbing over the past month or 2.

When do I start drilling in wall voids or start tearing down walls ? Most of the exterior walls are filled with insulation so I'm not sure spraying in them will do anything.

What is the difference between SC and NY ?

Thanks for any advice. I am sure I will have more info for you.....I normally forget to write everything ;)

Jeremy
