I think you're being a bit hasty... I really think if you had a problem that affected that many walls, you would be seeing a lot of ants.

You say you hear them in an interior wall. Maybe you could punch a few easy-to-fix holes and see what gives. That is, if you're really intent on this.

Otherwise, give it a change in weather and see if it abates.

And the only difference between SC and NY is the registration. NY demands chem companies follow THEIR rules, which are mostly no different than normal rules. The chemicals themselves, are identical.
