I'm assuming you don't want to spend any money saving the tree? If not, then take it down anytime you want, it won't really matter. Ants "escaping" into your house is more a trick by exterminators to shake you up than anything else. And, of course, to shake some money from your wallet. :)

Just be sure to move the wood away from the house and don't consider it to be useful for firewood.

If you do want to save the tree (and have apples!) remove the dead branches and have it sprayed at the appropriate time(s). And don't worry about the ants, which reside on every tree. They're actually beneficial - on trees.
