They often come in on wires. But they have MANY ways to get inside. As far as ants are concerned, they can get into ANY house, no problem. And, if they do, which they surely will, and find a nice spot to bed down, you have ants! No getting around it. In fact, you can have nesting ants in a house and never see one. Just depends on where they are. And about a million other factors...
Jeremy used, I believe, a perimeter spray with Termidor to alleviate his problem. He may have killed the entire nest. In which case, he won't have a problem again unless some of those ants decide they have found a place to stay, regardless of "conditions."
You can indeed do that too. Just obtain a container of Termidor, smallest size goes for about $85 or so, obtain the sprayer (about $15-$20 bucks) in any Wal-Mart, then give it a try. Then, perhaps, you will experience a cessation of activity. Unless, of course, the ants find their way back again... At that point, depending on when it happens, you then have to find the problem to eliminate the ants (at least in that location) forever.
And don't use an alate (swarmer) for an ID. Use a worker.
