So happy I found this board! I live in a townhome in central MN. The bottom part of the door frame of the main entrance has gotten soft and spongey. I read about fixing the frame with Elmer's Damaged Wood since I can't afford a brand new door frame (and unfortunately this cost is mine, not the association's), and started pulling apart the rotting damp parts in order to figure out how much product I would need. As I was pulling away all the damp wood, a couple carpenter ants poked their heads out and I'm now worried that the problem is bigger than I had anticipated. Obviously I can't see the nest. I've ordered Advance Carpenter Ant Bait and Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel, with the mindset that I should try and get rid of the ant problem before starting the repairs so they don't burrow further into my wood. So far I have seen none in the house. Am I on the right track? Everyone in my life is yelling at me to replace the door and door frame but that is just financially impossible.
