I live in central NJ and had a quick question!
The last few days, I've seen a couple ants climbing up the side of my home, always the same area by a very small garden against the house. I thought they were small wasps at first, since they'd usually fly away before getting to the top. One strayed near the window -t his one without wings, and noticed it was a very large pavement ant; size of a carpenter ant, two nodes. Assumed it was a reproductive, and flicked it off the screen.
Today I noticed the same thing, three of them climbing up, two flew away; one didn't. That one crawled all the way up, and started roaming around the soffits, eventually squeezing into the vent holes. I sat around and watched for a short while, and I'd notice it roam in and out of the soffits.
Is it safe to assume it was alone since I never saw more than just that one out of the soffits? I'm not sure if this means I might have an issue up in my attic, or if these guys are just looking for a new place to live! I haven't noticed ants in my home in years, and something tells me if there was a problem I'd probably see a lot more goon in and out of that area.
I'd love to go into the attic to check it out, but it's large, unfinished and mostly unlit.
